We read through the (challenging!) opening lines of the Shahnama, as well as a short poem by Shahid Balkhi. In addition to working through the meanings of the texts themselves, Leila also explained the poetic forms and the historical significance of them too. An amazing class!

Postdoctoral Researcher, Bonn Center for Dependency and Slavery Studies

Emma completed her PhD in South Asian Languages and Civilizations at the University of Chicago in May 2020 and is currently a postdoctoral researcher at the Bonn Center for Dependency and Slavery Studies at the University of Bonn. Her current book project is entitled “Unequal Intimacies: Gender, Slavery and Servitude in the Mughal World.”
