This course is part of the “Reading Persian Texts” series, designed for beginner to intermediate Persian learners. The goal of this course is to familiarize you with the natural, cultural, architectural, and historical aspects of Iran’s deserts in a simple yet informative way.

Course Content Includes:

1. Introduction to Iran’s Deserts: Exploring the formation process of deserts in Iran, the climatic changes that influenced their creation, and introducing Dasht-e Kavir and Dasht-e Lut as two prominent examples of Iran’s deserts.
2. Natural Features of Deserts: Examining key environmental factors such as rainfall, temperature, aridity, wind, and storms that create the unique living conditions in deserts.
3. Desert Flora and Fauna: Understanding the biological adaptations of living organisms to harsh desert conditions, from resilient plants to animals that have managed to survive in this arid environment.
4. Life in the Desert: Learning about traditional desert living strategies, including qanats, windcatchers, reservoirs, traditional icehouses, native architecture, and local handicrafts.
5. Civilization in the Desert: Reviewing the history and exploring the cities and civilizations that have flourished within Iran’s deserts, such as Damghan, Kashan, Neyshabur, Kerman, and more.
